Develop green, affordable multifamily workforce housing for metropolitan areas.

Approximately one-third of households in large metropolitan areas earn between 60 and 120 percent of the area’s median income. These workforce households typically include schoolteachers, firefighters, police officers, nurses, and government employees. This workforce should be able to live within the cities they support, but they often cannot because of the gap between their incomes and the cost of housing.

This initiative will:

  • Develop and implement a study to determine the housing needs of workforce employees.
  • Create a panel of experts to include:
    • Real estate developers
    • Green/sustainable architects
    • Engineers
    • LEED AP professionals
    • Housing manufacturers
  • Host design charettes with this panel of experts to study and quantify possible solutions.
  • Generate a resilient solution for workforce housing needs.
